Port processes made easy
CarRes excels when it comes to reservation fulfilment at the point of departure. Every aspect of check-in and boarding can be automated, depending on the individual port logistics and the client’s specific requirements.
On Danske Faerger, for example, foot commuters can book, check-in and board using only their finger print whilst those in vehicles can use their road toll electronic tags to achieve the same result.
Port staff uses handheld WiFi scanners to check-in vehicles and record the additional information required by the authorities.
In all cases, CarRes can manage the allocation of vehicles to parking lanes, issue combined boarding cards/cabin keys and produce fully detailed manifests.
To enable fast and efficient processing of ‘turn-up-and-go’ passengers at the port, the CarRes Ticket Point of Sale (tPoS) module provides booking templates that can be used to pre-populate the majority of fields within a booking. It uses context sensitive defaults such as the time of day, selling location (inside the terminal or out in the vehicle lanes) and generic traveller characteristics (individual travellers, families etc). The module also facilitates interfacing with standard POS equipment such as customer displays, card readers and cash drawers.
