Tanzanian fast ferry operator Azam Marine/Coastal Fast Ferries to implement CarRes in wake of new vessel order.
With the ink barely dry on their contract to purchase Kilimanjaro III the forward looking East African operator has teamed up with Carus to install their booking, ticketing, departure-control and administration system.
Operations Director, Hussein M Said, explains the decision to introduce the system as an important element of their strategic plan to create a professional infrastructure which will establish them as the foremost operator in the region; “With the newly delivered and ordered vessels, the terminal we have built and the new docking pontoon in Dar es Salaam we are moving ahead rapidly with our plans. CarRes will allow us to broaden our sales channels with online bookings for the public and our trade partners and improve our port procedures with the introduction of automated check-in processes”.
“One of the major challenges with this project is the lack of a banking infrastructure in Tanzania which gives us issues with taking payments online; one of the ways we will be combating this is to develop what we believe will be the industry’s first integration with mobile phone payment solutions” observes Anders Rundberg, CEO of Carus. “For many years we have been working with traditional payment gateways for processing credit and debit card transactions but very few Tanzanians have these cards or bank accounts so we need to tap in to the solutions that are available locally, and the use of mobile phones to pay bills is commonplace here.”
According to Anders this will be another fast track project for Carus with implementation slated to be just 6 weeks from start to finish: “We will install the system remotely and do the basic configuration before we arrive on site as we know most of the business rules & parameters we need to setup.” From Azam Marines perspective the fact that they are buying into a well-established solution that is constantly evolving gives them security in the knowledge that their investment will continue to provide them with a best of breed solution well into the future.
