Wasaline introduces Digital Keys via the Wasaline Mobile App

Wasaline adopts innovative technology to streamline the travel experience, as well as saving on costs and the environment.

Wasaline's new ship is the first ferry in the world to install ASSA ABLOY Digital Key technology for all its cabins. Passengers will be able to open their cabin directly from their mobile phone using Wasaline's mobile app. It's easy to use and secure enough to share the key with family and friends.
The product is designed on a “white label"  app created by Carus and launched as a pure Wasaline branded app. The same "white label" app is used by operators all over the world. The flexible method of developing these apps ensures the product is kept fresh and up-to-date and the costs are kept down.
This is a natural step in the evolution of the ferry industry. With this system we can help operators cut costs and reduce their environmental footprint. This solution is contactless, significantly cutting down on the need for user interaction. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic this is exactly what the industry needs.” - Anders Rundberg, CEO of Carus.
Our goal at Wasaline is to become the most modern, innovative, safe and environmentally friendly ferry operator in the world. We seek out the most cost- effective solutions; this is one important part of our strategy.- Peter Ståhlberg, CEO of Wasaline

About Wasaline - a small shipping company with a big heart

Wasaline commenced transportation of passengers and goods across the Kvarken strait in 2013. Wasaline is owned by the city of Vasa and the municipality of Umeå. Wasaline is known for being reliable, friendly, quality conscious, flexible and taking the very best care of its customers, personnel and the environment. Wasaline is developing the traffic across Kvarken and strives to restore the route to its former glory.

The company takes great responsibility for keeping the sea clean for future generations along the Ostrobothnian coast in Finland and the Västerbotten coast in Sweden. The municipalities on both sides of the Kvarken straight have set clear environmental targets: the municipality of Umeå with its local Agenda 2030 programme, and the city of Vaasa’s ambition to become climate neutral by 2035. Wasaline has set its own targets for the environment to complement these strategies.
